MTB at the Brut Loop with Clem Route:

| Notes |
Spent all afternoon fixing a broken spoke, tuning the rear derailleur, and installing a new chain. I rarely work on my own bike, but I no longer feel it was necessary to pay a shop and wait for questionable service. It was a rewarding experience and the bike feels great. — First time riding this trail in months. Exceptionally hot & humid but we maintained a consistent pace. The reverse route of the EH Race Course loses elevation but then quickly makes it up over several technical climbs. I was able to make it 3/4 of the way up the final steep section in 1-3 but was defeated before the summit. Heart rate was at maximum. After racing Mt. Snow and Hodges Village Dam MTB races I realized I needed to work on my downhill if I want to compete at a higher level. I’ve been staying off the brakes and focusing on chosing the best line. Rolling over technical features is safer than pumping the brakes — even if it feels like the opposite should be true. |
