| Summary |
5k XC course (XC as in highschool/college XC: grass, dirt, paths. Extremely fast elite runners) |

| Notes |
I did not expect a traditional XC start or XC course, but that’s what we got: nearly 200 runners all starting at once sprinting across a giant field into the woods. I was third into the trail behind two elite runners (5:09 / 5:13 paces) with my first mile clocked at 5:46. Breathing was inconsistent and my legs felt heavy (looking back at the times, I was running way too fast). Into the second mile I was passed by five others in two groups (elite, and then closer to my speed). This put me in 8th until the final sprint. With 25 meters to go I surged passed 7th place and held the momentum to clip 6th at the line. My track workouts have paid off in the last two races. The competition at this race was different than all other events this year. High school and college XC runners are exceptionally fast. ERIC: 27th (10/25) |

True XC course (grass, trail), but not in the same sense as "trail" running.
