Ten Tips to Building Workout Intensity
http://www.getbig.com/articles/tips.htm
"You must sacrifice laziness, pain avoidance, and pleasure seeking to develop the pain tolerance for hard work. Hard work helps ensure that your sustained efforts will lead you in the direction of achievement. Realistically, you must battle against fear, apathy and pain avoidance to defeat your worst enemy - most likely yourself. "
the biggest hurdles i face in CrossFit are mental. pain is momentary, then it is over. it's like a little kid getting a shot, the fear of the needle is worse than the actual shot. afterward, you are like, that wasn't so bad. thanks for the article. it helps put pain and tolerance into perspective.
Thanks for the link, Scott. It's all mental. Race season is a month away and I'm trying to get my head straight. I met Dutch once at San Francisco Crossfit back in 2008. Nice guy and very strong (for being even shorter than me).
Perfect post...last night I took part in an online forum with Dutch Lowy on prepping for competiton/game day. The discussion focused mostly on the mental side of competition. Great content. Dutch is one cool cat! They have different guests all the time...some are free and others are not. Last night was free, pretty cool for an 1.5 hour conversation with Dutch and others from around the world. You should check it out:
